OPHTHALMOLOGIST KATELIJN DE LEPELEIRE
Ophthalmologist Katelijn De Lepeleire was born and raised in the university town of Leuven. It was in this town that she also completed her studies in Medicine at KU Leuven, followed by specialisation in ophthalmology at home and abroad under the guidance of Professor Luc Missotten.
Dr De Lepeleire decided not to limit herself to Belgium. She gained her medical experience in both Johannesburg and Cape Town, as well as Nottingham University, Queens Medical Centre and Moorfields Hospital in London. She continued to attend conferences at home and abroad with a focus on frontal eye surgery, such as lens surgery and refractive surgery of the cornea.
Dr De Lepeleire has been an active member of LaserVisionClinics in Drongen for more than 20 years. It is in Drongen that LASIK surgery and microscopic lens exchange surgery are performed. She is also a fellow board member of the Professional Association of Ophthalmologists, a group of doctors who discuss eyelid surgery and organise courses related to restoring eyelids and tear ducts after trauma, degeneration, functional deterioration or aesthetic changes.
In 2015, Dr Katelijn De Lepeleire's vast experience led her to establish a new ophthalmology clinic in Meise. The diagnostic-therapeutic eye centre offers the following options: OCT imaging (an imaging technique that uses top-of-the-line Heidelberg Spectralis OCT equipment to create high-resolution images of the structures of the eye), corneal topography (imaging the surface, thickness and volume of the cornea) and laser treatments. In addition, Dr De Lepeleire also works as head of service at AZ Jan Portaels general hospital in Vilvoorde. In cooperation with fellow ophthalmologists, she offers eye diagnostics, laser treatments for the retina and various other treatments.
