WHAT IS A CATARACT?
You can seek cataract treatment at the ophthalmology clinic of Dr Katelijn De Lepeleire. A cataract is also called a catarrh. The development of cataracts involves the clouding of the eye lens behind the pupil that forms over time. A cataract is sometimes triggered by disease, inflammation or medication, which causes less clear or even blurred vision.
In most cases, cataracts are age-related.
The clouded lens causes blinding vision in low light or oncoming traffic; changing glasses or adding more light helps very little or not at all.
TREATMENT
There is no medication for cataracts.
Unfortunately, the clouding of the lens grows for life, and the symptoms will continue to increase. Therefore, in the long term, the only solution is to treat a cataract by surgery. Since the patient's own lens is clouded, it should be replaced with an artificial lens.
THE AIM OF THE SURGERY IS TO RESTORE CLEAR VISION.Accurate measurements taken beforehand make it possible to see clearly after cataract surgery, even without glasses or contact lenses.
An implant lens can help bring objects back into focus: suitable for farsighted and sometimes nearsighted, depending on which implant lens you choose.
The cost of cataract surgery is partially reimbursed by the health insurance provider; however, not all implant lenses can be reimbursed.
